I used this DVD with my Intro to Communication Disorders class to show not only the variety of outcomes, but also the challenges and successes that those face having had a brain injury. My students commented that they found this documentary enlightening as they had no knowledge of the affects of brain injury on an individual. -- Lisa Schoenbrodt, CCC-SLP, Speech Pathology & Audiology Dept., Loyola University, MD
Your documentary is fantastic. I suffered a TBI in 1992, and your program well captures the many
frustrations and life-altering experiences that come from a TBI. Thank you for your work.
-- Mary Fumento, WY
This will make a great addition to our library as our Health Teacher is looking forward to this purchase.
I hope you get a great response; we need to learn about what different circumstances people go through every day with their challenges.
'Ignorance' is definitely not 'bliss' !
-- Sally Landi, Morristown High School, Morristown, NJ
I purchased this and used it during my past fall semester of teaching TBI. It is a great resource and did provide the students with an insight they get no where else. Thank you. -- Adrienne McElroy-Bratcher, Program Dir./Asst. Professor, Eastern New Mexico University, NM
The goal of Brain Injury Dialogues, a documentary co-directed by Lyell Davies and brain injury survivor Rick Franklin, is to educate the public and provide survivors, their families and health professionals an accurate, empowering account of the many challenges associated with brain injury. -- Jaclyn Law, Abilities Magazine, Toronto, Canada
Mahalo all of you for your hard work in producing this excellent
documentary. I just viewed it and will be sharing it with many folks in
Hawai'i as well as in the outer Pacific (American Samoa, CNMI and
Micronesia) where I work. Thank you, thank you, thank you! -- Mellanie Lee, Hawai'i & Pacific Deaf-Blind Projects, Center on Disability Studies, University of Hawai'i, Manoa, HI
I have a copy of your DVD and have used it several times in training and discussions... thanks for all you're doing! -- Craig Sicilia, TBI Survivors Network
The Ithaca (NY) Acquired Brain Injury Support Group watched Brain Injury Dialogues & this is what they had to say: Fresh first person accounts very engaging.
The "journey" is a concept that resonates.
The movie touched on a lot of relevent issues.
It would have been better, or a sequel, should examine more the complicated changes caused in whole family systems. As well, the loss of relationships that arise from TBI/ABI didn't really get addressed.
It was good & low key was appreciated.
Cinematography was wonderful especially frames of the subjects when excess movement has them moving in & out of frame.
Final comment- This stimulated one of the most animated discussions we have had in a long time. It is a great resource, giving a very personal feel to a complicated individual & social problem. -- Richard Maxwell PhD, ABI Support Group, Ithica, NY
Brain Injury Dialogues is an important documentary that captures the struggles and triumphs of brain injured individuals. Although this film will be of deep value to those with brain injuries, it is also a must-see film for the medical professionals, psychologists, counselors, caregivers, friends, and family who care for them... A beautiful film! -- Christine Kidd, Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, CA
In putting together a packet to send to all the hospitals in my state, I reviewed many DVDs and chose to include this one. It is professionally done, informative and reasonably priced. I highly recommend it for survivors, family members, caregivers, medical providers, and anyone wanting to learn more about traumatic brain injury.
-- Jennifer Charvet, Alaska Brain Injury Network, AK
I just watched your documentary, Brain Injury Dialogues yesterday, and frankly, I can't stop thinking about it. I keep wondering where you -- Rick -- and all the other people with TBI are now ... and how you are doing. It's like I made friends with all of you and now you have moved away and left no forwarding address... -- Victoria Tilney Mcdonough, BrainLine.org, WETA, VA
I have reviewed Brain Injury Dialogues and I was very impressed by its production qualities and content.
I will happily post a link to it on www.headinjury.com.
-- Constance Miller, MA, Brain Injury Resource Center, WA
I work as a Recreation Therapist... We have an extensive inpatient and outpatient brain injury rehabilitation program. I had the pleasure of viewing this film at the Picture This Film Festival, Edmonton edition hosted here in May 2009. The multidisciplinary team are hosting a training and professional development retreat October 2009. As a member of the planning committee, I have recommended a viewing of your film as part of our retreat.. -- Dianne Bowtell, Recreation Therapist, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, Alberta, Canada
I can't thank you enough for sharing the video about brain injuries with me. I was BLOWN away at the compelling stories, and the lives that were changed in the blink of an eye. The production of this movie and the stories that were told, was so well done.
I appreciate all that you did to get this message out there. Great Job! I would love to see more videos out there like this!
-- Stephanie Ker, Community Affairs Manager, Disability Network of Mid-Michigan, MI
I would like to tell you that I am extremely pleased with the Brain Injury Dialogues DVD. I also experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury several years ago (1992) and it has indeed been a life changing experience... I am writing today to request permisson to use this DVD as a part of a lesson that I will be teaching to a group of senior level nursing students. The lecture will cover Traumatic Brain Injuries. I would like to make this DVD available for the students (approximately 30)... in our Audio/Visual Library at Arkansas State University... Thanks. -- Lance Wilcox RN BSN, Arkansas State University, AR
I am a 5th year clinical psychology doctorate student, with an emphasis in neuropsychology and specialty training in neuropsychological assessment and cognitive rehabilitation. In November 2008, I received my own moderate level traumatic brain injury. This has completely changed my life. I continue to receive quite a bit of professional help in my own rehabilitation, while I am also working with clients with brain injuries of their own. Since my accident, my awareness of and passion about the issues faced by brain injured individuals - including the need for improved disability services, the disjointed communication between treatment professionals, the varied nuances of individual adjustment difficulties, and the desperate need for an effective advocacy system - has increased tremendously... I am pleased to add Brain Injury Dialogues to my own set of resources. -- Liz Baker, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Candidate, Brigham Young University, UT
